The First Ball - 2,225 lbs
Our first popcorn ball weighed 2,225 pounds – it met its demise two years after its creation in April of 1995.
As an attraction at the county fair in August of 1997, the ball was loaded with 7 sticks of dynamite to blow it up and make it “rain popcorn”. The grandstands were filled with people anticipating the explosion. The national media was on hand to record the unique event. Alas, 7 sticks of dynamite were no match for the sticky mass as it broke apart in several pieces instead of raining popcorn.

Our record was challenged and beat in September of 1995 by the Boy Scouts.
Our record was challenged and beat in September of 1995 by the Boy Scouts. So, in June of 2004, we set out to make our second “World’s Largest Popcorn Ball”. Seven hours and 13 minutes later, we had created a 3,100-pound ball.

AGAIN, this record was beat, so again, Sac City came together to make their 4th “World’s Largest Popcorn Ball” on June 18th, 2016.

This time we had the help of some large equipment. The 4th Largest Popcorn Ball weighed 9,370 pounds. This Largest Popcorn Ball is on display at the Sac City, Iowa Museum. Everyone is always welcome to come visit and be amazed at how big this popcorn ball is.
